The rising tide of revival
The waves of revival have been gathering momentum around the world. From Toronto to Brownsville and more recently in Bethel Church in Redding California there is a rising tide of life, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Today we are witnesses of things that were only dreamed of a few decades ago – life-changing healings, resurrections, city-transforming movements. Here in South Africa as well, many churches have stopped praying for revival and started proclaiming, “We are revival!”
At the same time there has been, in South Africa, a shaking and even disintegration of several established church networks and structures. As a result many local churches have found themselves scattered and isolated, feeling disconnected and disempowered. On-line resources have provided some link to revival elsewhere, but they have been a poor substitute for personal connection, encouragement and impartation.
Build a house
In 2010 in California I (Richard) was pondering the challenge of pastoring a dislocated church when God spoke to me and said, “Build a house!” I asked how I was to do this, and he said, “Release the prophets”. (God speaks to me in short sentences!). This word was confirmed a week later across the other side of the world in Paris where a pastor’s wife with no knowledge of these events gave me these verses: II Kings 6:1-2 “And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell.”
By 2015 I had gathered some young prophets, but still not worked out quite what I was supposed to do. In March that year a visiting prophet gave me another word from II Kings: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ ... Now it happened in the morning, when the grain offering was offered, that suddenly water came by way of Edom, and the land was filled with water.” (3:16,20). We heard a clear call to build relational channels between different springs of life in churches and ministries across the land to allow the water of the Spirit to flow.
I met with a number of like-minded pastor friends and together we launched the first House without Walls Leaders Advance, held in August 2015 at Hillside Church, KZN. It was a powerful time of connection, vulnerability, personal ministry, prophetic impartation and apostolic gathering of hearts.
